What is it with the school thing?

My last post sparked a round of conversations with a few readers (all near and dear friends, so I know they won't take this new post the wrong way) who happen to send their kids to school that got me to thinking...

What is it with the school debate? Why can't it just be a matter of personal opinion?

If someone says they hate Fords, and you (the collective "you" here - not you in particular) drive a Ford - you chalk it up to their personal opinion and you don't really care why they hate Fords or what they think of you for driving a Ford. Your vehicle preferences are obviously different from theirs.

Same thing with broccoli. If you love broccoli, and someone else says they can't stand the taste of broccoli - it doesn't really matter, your and their tastes in food are obviously different.

If you believe in a god, while someone else believes instead in many - it doesn't really matter, you and they obviously have different beliefs that led you to each join different faiths.

Why not with education? Why do we take it so much more personally with education?

One educational option is not the one right or perfect educational option for everybody - just as there is no one spiritual path that is the right one for everybody... And if you suggest so, I am bound to think of you the same I happen to think of those that do insist there is one spiritual path for everybody! ;)-

Now how's that for an inflammatory post, lol?
